Sam Pollock (he/him)
Sam Pollock (he/him)Director
Dr Sam Pollock joined Iconal in 2016, after a career spanning academia, government research and technology consultancy.

He has worked within the UK government and in technology consultancy with expertise in commercial R&D and product development across diverse sectors such as biomolecular diagnostics, medical imaging and consumer electronics. Dr Pollock’s experience covers many areas of physics and engineering with a focus on the techniques applicable to explosives and weapons detection. He possesses core competencies in the fields of laser spectroscopy and millimetre wave technology alongside practical experience in operationally relevant test and evaluation of commercial CBRNE detection products.

Dan Crick

Dr Dan Crick joined Iconal as an experienced science and engineering consultant. He has worked in a range of market sectors and has hands-on experience with a variety of technologies, including electronic and optical system design, data analytics, high-tech manufacturing, and novel sensor development.

Dan graduated with a physics degree from Oxford. He has a PhD from Imperial College London, where he developed new laser systems and ultra-sensitive instrumentation for atomic physics experiments. Dan has also spent time working for NASA, controlling spacecraft-mounted measurement equipment such as spectrometers and radar receivers.

Jen brings extensive experience in sales, marketing and finance to Iconal. Jen supports the team in providing the critical day-to-day administrative and accounts support to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Georgie Foot

Georgie joined Iconal following a Master’s level degree in Physics from Imperial College London, with a focus on experimental work with semiconductor and plasmonic materials. She applies her strong analytical background to support a range of Iconal projects, with particular experience in data collection, experimental analysis and the design of test object sets and methods.
Abi Graham (she/her)

Dr Abi Graham joined Iconal in 2022 having spent 15 years in technology-consultancy (in the medtech/biotech sector). Prior to that, she completed a PhD and postdoc in the University of Cambridge in experimental physics, after doing her undergraduate physics degree at the University of Glasgow. She has a range of multi-disciplinary expertise across data-science, trouble-shooting complex systems, microfluidics, liquid-handling systems, bioprinting, general product-development and research-skills, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion.
Mike Kemp
Mike KempDirector / Founder
Dr Mike Kemp, who founded Iconal Technology Ltd in 2006, is known internationally as an expert on stand-off detection of explosives and works as an adviser to a number of major programmes.

Dr Kemp read Natural Sciences at Downing College, Cambridge and was awarded a PhD in Physics specialising in Radio Astronomy from the University of Cambridge, Cavendish Laboratory in 1978. After postdoctoral research in space science and in medical imaging, he moved into industry where he has held a number of technical and managerial roles in technology start-up, management consultancy and systems integration companies.

Dr Kemp’s expertise and experience covers a wide range of physics, engineering and IT areas such as security screening, explosives and CBRN detection, imaging technology, information systems and databases, medical imaging, speech recognition and image processing. He is a Chartered Engineer, a member of IET, IEEE and SPIE.

Jon Pearson

Dr Jon Pearson is an experienced physicist with a focus on systems design and development. Jon brings skills in modelling, data analysis and machine learning to the team. His background includes design of novel materials for engineering applications, robotics, electromagnetic design and modelling and trace gas detection.
Ollie Chalk

Ollie is a Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering graduate. With his heavily project-focused background in robotics and programming, Ollie applies his strong problem-solving skills and experience automating and optimising systems to support a range of Iconal projects.
