As an independent consultancy, our clients can trust us to find the right answers and to tell them the truth.

We don’t market or promote technology of our own — where our research creates new IP, we sell it outright via technology transfers, so we're never left with an ongoing stake in the outcome.

What independence means
in practice

Iconal Technology Ltd provides independent consultancy and services across research and development, technology strategy, test and evaluation and technology transfers.

We are independent of security equipment and system manufacturers and do not market any security equipment of our own, nor do we market, endorse or have a financial interest in any products of third parties.

Research and development

Research and development services are provided to both government and commercial clients.
However, we only conduct commercial R&D work outside of the security sector, and where we can be certain there is no overlap or conflict of interest with any government work.

Technology strategy

As with research and development, we conduct strategic research for both commercial and government clients, but commercial work is only undertaken within non-security-related industries.

Test and evaluation

Test and evaluation services are only provided to government organisations and government-sponsored security research projects carried out by other organisations.

The exception to this is the provision of test objects — such as bag sets and liquids-testing sets — which we also supply to academic and commercial organisations where permitted by government sponsors.

Technology transfers

Contract research activities such as the development of early-stage prototypes of new security systems, concepts and processes may result in the generation of intellectual property (IP) which may be held by Iconal.

IP regarded as exploitable is divested by offering it for sale once the research has completed. Any such IP is sold outright rather than licensed with downstream royalties, so as not to create any ongoing financial relationship with the transferee. In this way, Iconal maximises the creation of new security capabilities from our work while maintaining our independence.
